Google launches new Pixel 8a with 7 years of updates
It’s May 7th, and Google has just taken the covers off the refresh of their budget phone with the reveal of the Pixel 8a.
To cut to the point, the 8a seems like tremendous value as it starts at $499 for an 8 GB ram/ 128 GB Storage model. A bigger storage option of 256 GB will be offered at a price tag of $559.
All Pixel 8a phones will be powered by the same Tensor G3 chip that powered Google’s flagship phone the Pixel 8. That means we’re getting the same performance (to a certain degree) that the Pixel 8 had for less money. The cameras should all be sufficient as the rear contains a 64 MP, f/1.89 sensor, and a 13 MP ultra-wide, f/2.2 lens that we’ve become accustomed to.
With a 6.1 -inch OLED display that refreshes at 120 Hz now, the 2400 x 1080 p display is slightly brighter, but remains largely the same as last years screen experience. The big feature for the 8a that will make it extremely competitive in this price point is the inclusion of wireless charging, and also 7 years of software updates.
The new 8a is up for pre-order right now.
