Walmart will acquire TV maker Vizio for $2.3 billion

Nearly a decade ago, I interviewed William Wang, the founder of Vizio at Universal, Los Angeles. He was a prideful man who sounded like the perpetual underdog, fighting the big brands who have wronged the general consumers of affordable televisions. Jump to 2016, and I was shocked to hear the news that Vizio was attempting a sale to troubled Chinese tech giant, LeEco. That $2 billion acquisition failed, but the headstrong industry disrupting game plan I had always associated with Vizio was shattered. Now Walmart will take ownership of the once prosperous brand. Already a producer of televisions under their Onn brand, it’ll be fascinating to see where they take Vizio.
