Nintendo Switch 2 officially debuts

Nintendo has finally taken the lid off the successor to the ever popular Nintendo Switch. The long awaited next generation console will be properly named the Switch 2 and will continue the portability that the original Switch popularized starting back in 2017.

At nearly 8 years of shelf life, the Nintendo Switch has long overstayed its competitveness in many categories of gaming, but especially in graphical and frame rate performance.

We don’t have all the details yet about the power of the Switch 2, but we do know that the new device will be released sometime in 2025 and it will largely keep the same format as the original console. The Switch 2 will be larger, feature magnetic Joy-Cons, a wider horizontal kickstand that fills the entire length of the body, and an additional USB-C port. In the trailer video, Nintendo also teased a brand new Mario Kart game.

The gaming market for portable consoles has evolved greatly since the original Switch launched nearly a decade ago. Will Nintendo be able to maintain its stronghold and continue the gold standard? Only time will tell as we get closer to the launch date.
