Sony reveals new PS5 Pro priced at $700

On November 7th, gamers will get a chance to experience the next generation of PlayStation gaming - or at least the next level of a mid-cycle refresh.

The Japanese console maker has taken the wraps off the anticipated PS5 Pro system that will be available for pre-order directly from Plastation on September 26.

For $699, the highest powered PlayStation console released to date will provide gamers with an upgraded GPU that will make the PS5 Pro about 45% faster at rendering gameplay over the 4-year old PS5. The goal for this console to to get games up with higher frame rates and better resolution at 60 fps.

On top of that, there’s even more Advanced Ray Tracing and AI-Driven Upscaling to get those graphic images as clean as they’ve ever been.

That’s really most of the upgrades that are newsworthy as although Sony said they've attempted to keep the PS5 Pro’s design “consistent with the overall PS5 family of products” there just wasn’t much innovation for a mid-generation refresh. The console looks nearly identical to the PS5 with the height and width about the same as well.

Ironically for a Pro console, the PS5 Pro will not come with a disc drive, but Sony will sell an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive as well as swappable console covers at extra costs. The PS5 Pro also will not come with a vertical stand as those will be sold separately as well.
