Nerdytec Couchmaster CYPINK Review

Elle Woods called and wants her gear back!

As much as I enjoy my desk setup, there’s something to be said about wrapping up your evening in bed with a laptop or tablet. To this day, I still enjoy watching shows and movies from the comfort of my laptop in bed or on the couch as opposed to a large screen TV. Enter the Couchmaster CYPINK from Nerdytec. With this ingenious invention, I theoretically should be able to conquer my bed and/or couch to make it the most luxurious workspace known to humankind. Right?

2000’s Nostalgia

The term ‘Couchmaster’ is exactly what you imagine it to be. This contraption is essentially made up of three large pieces, completely adjustable to a user’s preference and desire. The form consists of two large cushions in this bright pink color made of an old school carpet fluffy material. The cushions are 23.6 inches in length, 7.9 inches in width and 6.3 inches in height each.

Each side has different pockets for accessories including a mouse bag, a side bag for accessories, and a netted pocket for other small items. The cushion material consists of memory foam inside and is lightweight to maneuver around and store. The cushions can be removed from the casing and are machine washable. Then there’s the actual desk itself which is of course, also pink and made from sustainable bamboo. There’s a grill cut onto the wood to give your device cooling ventilation space, but half of it is blocked by the cushion it rests on so the design isn’t exactly perfect there.

On the opposite side of the desk is a tablet or phone holder which fits my Apple iPhone 15 Pro perfectly. You can also attach the included 3M gaming mousepad if you prefer. I wish this included mousepad had a wrist rest on the mousepad itself because while Nerdytec advertises wrist pads that sit on the table, they’re really just leather-looking 3M tape that you have to stick on yourself. There’s no actual support for the wrists, so if you want more wrist support, be sure to get your own wrist rest. The board is 29.5 inches in length and 13 inches in width, making it wide enough for larger laptops and plenty of room for writing, and space for the mouse to operate. Keep in mind that if you’re planning on writing on this surface, it’s bumpy and not smoothed out, so be sure to use a writing pad or thicker notebook under the paper.

What drew me into the Couchmaster’s look in this particular variant was honestly its pink color. In terms of aesthetics, this was exactly the kind of accessory my younger self would have loved growing up. It’s very 2000’s vibe circa Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and I imagine would be perfect for teenagers and young adults who would love to be able to use their larger devices more comfortably while lazing around in bed. This is something I could see in a 90’s infomercial targeting teens.

Benefits and Use Cases

As much as I love the look of the Couchmaster, it wasn’t perfect by any means. To be honest, it was a little bit disappointing. Its size is both a curse and blessing. There’s plenty of space for work and play, but because of its bulkiness, I couldn’t quite get it to work comfortably with my sofa couch which is of average depth. You’d need a particular roomy type of sofa to be able to accommodate this effectively. In theory, it would’ve been great for using and working while watching television, but I personally found the Couchmaster to fit best on my bed where I had more wide space to play with. It’s also bulky to store and won’t fit in the storage space underneath most standard sized couches and beds. I ended up keeping it tucked away in my closet when not in use which was not ideal.

Needs A Little More…

Would love to see more functionality and features to justify hefty price tag

Worth It?

So, how worth it is the Couchmaster? While the certain parts of the Couchmaster like the cushions and desk feel made of good quality, and it’s aesthetically pleasing to at least me, the Couchmaster CYPINK retails for $159. Considering the other accessories it comes with feel like lower quality 3D printed pieces, it is really hard for me to justify the cost of this at MSRP. And while there’s plenty of side pockets to put things like a mouse or pens or such, I still would have liked to see more functionality for the price point like an actual wrist rest, cupholder, or even built-in speakers. There should even be a mini version for those who have less space to store this when not in use or don’t need as much surface area. There’s definitely a place and interest for products like the Couchmaster for some couch potatoes out there, but maybe with just a little more finesse and functionality this could have been a more generally acceptable product.
